So you’re thinking about joining the adventure? Fantastic choice! The MHM Race is all about testing your limits, discovering new skills, and - most importantly - having safe, unforgettable fun. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or brand new to adventure racing, this guide is here to help you feel ready and confident.
What to Expect
Start Time: 4:00 AM at Cypress Hills Provincial Park.
Duration: 9 hours of adventure in pairs.
Challenge: Navigate with a map and compass to find hidden markers and score points.
Activities: Cycle rugged trails, paddle across scenic waters, and hike or run through wild terrain.
Safety & Support
Bring Your Own Gear: Use your own boat and bike, it’s part of the fun! No boat? No bother! We have inflatable kayaks if you prefer.
Volunteers at Your Side: Our team is here to answer questions and support you throughout the event.
Race Briefing: Before the race begins, you’ll get a full rundown so you know exactly what to expect.
Map & Compass Skills
Adventure racing is about going back to basics. While GPS and mobile devices dominate today, the MHM Race celebrates traditional navigation.
Training Tip: Make map reading part of your routine in the weeks before race day.
Resources: We encourage hands-on skills, but you can learn the basics with videos like the one below. A little practice in advance will build lots of confidence!
Maps: We create a new race map every year. On race day, you'll get your hands on a copy with enough advance time to create your race strategy.
